Ben is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. Prior to joining SGRisk, his experience included various roles at primary and reinsurance companies, as well as at a rating bureau. He served as Vice President & Pricing Actuary for Zurich North America Insurance Company for ten years. Prior to that role, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary for Sorema North American Reinsurance Company.
At primary companies, he produced premium recommendations and rating models for primary and excess insurance, including automobile, general liability, products liability, accident and health, directors and officers, errors and omissions, medical malpractice and other professional liability for specific accounts and programs. He met with clients to discuss prices and insurance structures, conducted field audits and senior management/underwriter discussions and instructed underwriters both individually and in groups on use of models and application of general actuarial principles.
As a reinsurance company chief actuary, he developed reserving methodology and explained reserves carried to the parent organization, outside auditors, actuarial consultants, rating agencies and others. He wrote reserve opinions for member companies of the group, produced rate filings, loss cost multipliers, supporting exhibits, prices and formulae for varied and diverse lines including automobile, general liability, products liability, workers compensation, surety, aviation, marine and property insurance.
As a consultant, Ben has analyzed reserves and profitability, certifyied reserves and rate filing materials for medical malpractice, workers compensation and other lines of insurance for insurers and municipalities. He has built company solvency models, evaluating company strength which assisted company capital decisions and rating agency interaction. Ben has developed a case reserve system which has assisted in individual claim estimates and processes. In addition, he has provided litigation support as an expert witness.
His over 45 years as an actuary have given him a thorough knowledge of the property-casualty business both from a company and consulting viewpoint. He is a graduate of the City College of New York.
